Evaporator temp sensor and AC

I know this is early, but I want to take care of this prior to spring. It can get hot here in Texas during this time. It was in the 70's yesterday.

My 1986 420sel A/C is working intermittently. I started this project last year, but did not finish it. I replaced the accumulator. Vacuumed and charged it with R12. When I bypass the Klima relay with jumping pin 5 and 7 (I think?), the A/C blows cold. I check the low pressure switch with a multimeter, it is good(circuit is closed).

I think I narrowed it down to either the Klima relay or the evaporator temp sensor. I did try the cube method, still didn't work. So it mustn't be the Klima?

I have pulled the driver side center pad to expose the evaporator temp sensor/relay. I still cannot locate this. I see the expansion valve above the gas pedal. I see the black BEhr housing that the evaporator is in. There is a pink small cylinder(vacuum device?) near the expansion valve. Where is this sensor? I read it is 10 inches going back from the gas pedal. Can't find it. Does this model even have one?

Frustrated,

John

It's encased in a black foam "clamshell" right by the expansion valve area.

See post #3:

Pink cylinder is a vacuum actuator for the foot flaps.

What's is the clam shell?

As above. The only thing I see is a two tone barrel cylinder about 5 inches away from it. I will try to take a picture.

Here is the picture of my expansion valve area. Is the ETR in the pink cylinder?

Thanks,

John

Sorry, for the small picture. I had to crop it to fit the max file size for this site.

can't locate switch

As you can see from the picture, the expansion valve is on the left and the pink/black cylinder (is this the clam shell?). I have look for the ETR as in the link, but I still can't locate this.

Found it

For all those trying to find the ETR sensor. It is right next to the expansion valve. You can only see the tail end with the wire exiting the black evaporator box. Tug on the wire and the ETR should come out.
