Double wrench codes
I have a question for everyone. I just bought a 03' ML350 Inspiration package yesterday. On my way out of the dealership I noticed that there was a double wrench code that appeared on the display. At first the code was double wrench 400, the next time I started it I got a double wrench 500. The salesperson was not sure what the error message was (of course) but said that he would find out. The car just went over the 60K mark so I was wondering what types things to look out for.
Thanks for your help. |

Should all be described in the owner's manual.

Hi,
That is the code for "B service required in 400 miles". I think it is strange that a salesperson would not know the display code for "service required". I guess the salesperson doesn't drive these cars or even read the manual. However, I think it is even stranger that they sold you a car without giving it the necessary maintenance. Yes, the manual explains it in detail. |

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info. I bought it from a Jaguar dealership so the salesperson wasn't very knowledgeable about the vehicle. One of the contigencies for purchasing the vehicle was that the dealer pays for the 60K service through a reputable Mercedes service center. The 60k service should cover this code right?
I also wanted to enclose a pic of my ML. |

Heh heh heh...and here I was thinking that the number represented the amount of dollars you are going to spend on whatever part the double wrench light is hooked up to.

Just hope the double dollar sign light doesn't come on...

I thought the wrenches equated to dollars... I mean how much does the B-service cost 400 something? Its quite a bit of money for what they do IMO.

Yes the double wrenches means B-service.
That B-service should run about $380 before taxes, enviro and disposal fees. |

And what exactly do you get for that 380?

A glorified oil change Ha Ha!
No you should get the oil and filter changed-Mobil 1 synthetic. Engine air filter and air box cleaned. Fresh air filter.(climate). Tire rotation, inspect brakes, and all the other good stuff underneath. Top off fluids, top off tire pressures. Check battery and charging system. Replace wiper blades. Lubricate throttle linkage if applicable. Lube door seals and latches. Reset FSS counter on cluster. That's how most dealerships should do it. Oh, and if they give a care they will stamp your service booklet, some shops do not have competent service adherence policies and do not drill it into the technicians heads to STAMP THE BOOKS! |
