How do I remove this thing?

This thing is in the way of getting my valve cover off. How do I remove it without breaking it? I think I need to separate the round backing from the square part in order to pull it up through the "v" opening in the metal. Any ideas?

Lever off the ball socket and with a pair of pliers...squeeze the 'ears' of the square black plastic block to remove/push it through the stamped metal eye.....

That is the trans' cable..

BTW, Do you experience delayed up shifts....ie: shifts at 4000 rpm without full throttle ? Seems the adjustment is a little long.

Someone rotated the box 90 degrees and I sat there squeezing from the sides forever. Thankfully, I didn't crush it and then approached from the top and bottom. Bingo. Thanks!
