I wonder the logic of MB offering so many classes
A, B, C, CL, CLK, CLS, E, G, GL, M, Maybach, R, S, SL, SLK, SLR (more details on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz) wouldn't they be pushing their R&D, testing, support resources too much? Besides, some of them seem to overlap with one another to certain extent. |

when have mercedes electronics ever been reliable?my 1980 300sd has very little gadgetry but that dam tach amp!shameful for a car that in 1980 cost more than the average home.

How many other 26 year old things do you own that still work, or have been 100 % trouble free ?
Give me a break man! |
My costs...
I just calculated my costs to maintain and repair my 99 E430 over 7 year and 84K miles. -- just shy of $15,000.00 USD
I posted the details in separate thread. First let's debunk the "electrical stuff is what breaks myth". On my car, it was mostly mechanical items that make the car steer poorly, ride worse, leak stuff, and cause the engine to not start. Steeering rack Cat converters at a grand, each Shocks are a grand Upper and lower balls Radiator Water pump Harmonic balancers Crankshaft position sensors... which, by the way, are electronic, but the freaking enging won't start without one. Oh, yeah the electronics. Dashboard bulbs burn out so often I use them as a reminder when to change the batteries in my home smoke detector. |
that wooden leg i got in the 1st great war.still workin great:D

Buy yourself a good used Mennonite buggy.
No electrics there, other than a tail light on some. ;) |

I just got back from a 435 mile trip to Zzyzx and back home, car performed flawlessly and was the second oldest car at the parking lot. There was a 1972 Minibus (VW) owned by a classmate of mine. Car performed flawlessly, had no trouble keeping up and sat 5 people comfortably with all our luggage in the trunk, which was at maximum capacity!
On the side of the road were newer cars, some with flats, but others with the hoods open. It wasn't as hot as when we went last Fall 2004 but even back then, the car performed smoothly! |
Things are going really bad when you are surprised you actually made to your destination and back in any MB.
I remember when my dad used to drive around with tools and few parts "just in case". We'd drive 100 miles and my Dad would brag that the car (good example a 57 Ford Wagon, or a 60 Saab 2 cycle/3 cylinder) made it the whooooole way. I have a business trip next week -- just 500 miles round trip. And I find myself wondering... will the car make it. After all, it is only a MB, with less than a 100K on it. Maybe I'll rent a Buick, or fly. |
No No You Have It Wrong!
Mercedes is the most reliable car ever made. So much that I never plan a family vacation without taking it into consideration...consideration such as making sure we don't take it and which garage to park it in while we're gone...

People like you only confirm that A..holes will never be on the endangered species list. ;)
