1989 300te self leveling rear question...

My hydraulic hose for my self leveling rear suspension on my 1989 300te burst. My mechanic...unable to get a Mercedes replacement at the time (last week), bought some high pressure hose, put those plastic dampners that were inside the original hose in the new hose, and hooked the whole thing up...Works great, BUT...there is a whinnning when the engine is at rev. The mechanic feels that the "new" hose has a slightly larger inside diameter, thus those plastic things "may not be doing their job". He attributes the whinning to that hose...
I thought that hose only comes into play when there is leveling to be done...so, given no load in the rear, I get that whinning in neutral, when the tranny is disengaged ... when I rev the engine...sounds a tad like an airplane...
He wants to put in a Mercedes hose...expensive...to "see" if the noise goes away...To me, that's an expensive "let's see". Any thoughts?

Hydraulic fluid is pumped all the time. When there is levelling to be done, the pressure is much higher though. I bet the noise will be gone with the original hose. I vaguely remember reading a thread where such a self-assembled hose made some similar kind of noise.
