Can you put a US bumper on a euro car?

I have a euro '80 280ce with some rear end damage, the euro bumper is bent pretty badly, so I removed it.
I don't have the time to search/pay for another euro rear bumper, so is it possible to install a rear bumper from a US car? If so, how? I assume the mounting brackets are different..

Any info would be a great help.
