91 300E strange blower motor

The blower motor is new. It was working great. Until just the other day.

Symptoms:
When the ignition is cycled into position "three", the blower motor works perfectly. It varies speeds, and does everything that is expected of it. However, when you start the engine, the blower motor ceases to function. Completely dead.

What could it be? Suggestions?
