Any ideas what would suddenly cause the no. 3 cyliner on my 190e to stop firing properly. The engine was rebuilt 1 year ago with no problems since. I just replaced the fuel pump which was going bad anyway, but the problem is still there. Any thoughts on what would cause this and possible solutions?
Thanks Brian |

You will have to do a compression test to see if there is any internal leakage.
Also you could have the engine's ignition system checked for a misfire.

How did you isolate number three?
If you indeed have an identified dead cylinder it has to be one of three things; no spark, no injection or no compression. As Benzmac said do a compression test first and go from there. Have a nice weekend, |

problem solved
Thanks for your advice folks. The problem turned out to be that a mechanic I recently used forgot to reattach the air breather hose. Reattached myself, and it runs great.

Vadrill - glad to know your problems' solved. But how in the world did the mechanic slip up??
Goodness if I would have much confidence if that happened to me ... Hows the car running now? Hope you'd have a great start to your week.

I tried a different mechanic on the recommendation of a co-worker. Big mistake. His work was sloppy. Oh well, live and learn. The car is running great now. Brian |
