Any ideas what would suddenly cause the no. 3 cyliner on my 190e to stop firing properly. The engine was rebuilt 1 year ago with no problems since. I just replaced the fuel pump which was going bad anyway, but the problem is still there. Any thoughts on what would cause this and possible solutions?

Thanks

Brian

You will have to do a compression test to see if there is any internal leakage.

Also you could have the engine's ignition system checked for a misfire.

How did you isolate number three?

If you indeed have an identified dead cylinder it has to be one of three things; no spark, no injection or no compression.

As Benzmac said do a compression test first and go from there.

Have a nice weekend,

problem solved

Thanks for your advice folks. The problem turned out to be that a mechanic I recently used forgot to reattach the air breather hose. Reattached myself, and it runs great.

Vadrill - glad to know your problems' solved. But how in the world did the mechanic slip up??

Goodness if I would have much confidence if that happened to me ...

Hows the car running now?

Hope you'd have a great start to your week.

I tried a different mechanic on the recommendation of a co-worker. Big mistake. His work was sloppy. Oh well, live and learn.

The car is running great now.
