Megasquirt fuel injection, anyone try it?

I was thinking how nice it would be to have control over the throttle vs asking the computer permission to acelerate etc. Has anyone converted their throttle by wire to manual, or has anyone installed a magasquirt system on a Benz that has throttle by wire?

I bought a used megasquirt system but the injectors are too small for my truck, so I'm thinking of using it on my Benz or my old carburated RV.

I like the idea of a megasquirt alot. Don't listen to the trolls, an EFI that can be easily mod'd by a computer would be a big step foreward. If you combine that with a wide-band O2 sensor and some time at a dyno, you have some serious tuning ability. The megasquirt has a huge community backing it as well.

cheers,
dan r.

The intention of the guy doing this is to replace the very expensive early 107 system components. I think that he will consider the project a complete success if he gets it running as good or better than original with as good or slightly better gas mileage.

Going from that point, though, is going to take a lot of work on a dyno, with a lot of metrology equipment ($$$$) on everything. The megasquirt II can supposedly also control timing. If someone actually came up with a usable system for 107's that delivered at least as good power, performance and/or economy that would pass emissions (in most places, anyway) they would definitely have some customers IMO.

I was at a car show where a guy had an unbeleivable 190e with goodies up the yin-yang and a laptop on the passenger seat that monitored/controlled everything!

lkchris: I've nicknamed you "Negative Nancy".

It would not be a step back, oem efi is all about satisfying the governments emmission requirements, not max power or mileage. The oem setup, like all efi cars I've ever owned, sucks.
Normally I'm a carburator man but this megasquirt deal seems to be a fix for oem efi, and from what I've read so far everyone is happy with it.

Thanks everyone for the tips n links.

Strife: No need for a dyno. Wideband O2 sensor, laptop, and "feel" is all I need. I also have an exhaust temp gauge and G-Tech accelerometer if I need them, but I doubt it.
Getting megasquirt to pass emissions is a no brainer, getting the government to approve it is not. Last I heard (about 10 years ago) it was $100K to submit a part for approval. Not sure if that's 100K period, or 100K per engine type, but I bet it's per type. Can you imagine that times all the engines out there? That's why most aftermarket engine parts say "For Off-road Use Only", it's just not worth it to comply.
