Am I paranoid?

Well I removed the beautiful hood ornament from my 300 D for fear of it being stollen.Unfortunatly the car must sit on the street untill I build my garage.Lets just say I don't live on the best street in town and people walk by at anytime of the day. This symbol(land air and sea)seems to be a trophy for some-as I've seen many a rapper with one dangling from their neck.

no you are not paranoid. i have had several stolen. i once came out of my house and found a little ***** kid trying to get my trunk tristar off. i ran him off (about 8 or 09 years old for chris sake).

unfortunately he managed to scratch my pretty nice paint. that would have been about 1988 or 9 on my 300dt (83). back when i could afford such a new benz. ( paid about 8300 for it i think).

Sleeping in the car, while cradling a shotgun minimizes the chances.
Waaaayyyyyy too many rappers in the world anyway.
Maybe you get to thin-out the population.

It amazes me that a person would wear a Mercedes emblem proclaiming to the world, " Look at me,, I am a thief." Can't wait to see one.

Is it original?

If it were the original star I might put it away somewhere until you have a garrage and put one of the replacments in. Otherwise having a hole in your grille is not only unattractive but perhaps a way for water to get into some unintended areas and cause rust.

At $16.00 a pop let the ghetofabulous have their fun. Their facscination is with the cheapest most replacable part of the car. Most of the people who would do something like that will never have the joy of owning one of these cars. The true joy of having a Mercedes car has nothing to do with the decoration on the grille.

Luckily, I have only once ever had the hood star stolen and I have never removed it in any bad parts of town. It was actually in a rather affluent area in which it was stolen. It was only about $20 to replace.

nope your not paranoid we all go through it. Speaking of which, I think we need to figure out a way to run a small amount of electrical current to the hood ornament- just enough to shock the crap out of anyone who even thinks about taking that most prized possesion. Maybe tazzer strength? I feel a new thread coming on....

Here's a thought for those of you that have to deal with hood ornament thiefs.

Just how bright are they?......Not too terribly I suspect.

Next time you loose an MB ornament, replace with a Chrysler ornament. You'll soon see these dweebs walking around the malls with Chrysler ornaments hung around their necks thinking they scored an MB ornament.

Ha!

No one has ever botherd mine. I have parked it in places where their were a lot of kids around who would probably consider it fun.

New ones are $25, I couldn't care less if they rip the star off. Just don't damage the rest of the car. Sure I'll be pissed but over a $25 star, I'll live.

Hmmm I think they would just think it was a Chrysler and move on.

i often have removed mine and filled the hole with a stainless steel plumbing hole plug. about $4 from the local hardware. looks like it grew there. then when i sell the car i put the ornament back on.
