AC question -- 95 S420

What would likely be the cause of AC blower running slower when the Recirculate button is on?

If the Recirculate button is pushed while blower speed is on HI the blower cuts back, on it's, after about a minute. Blower stays at low speed and will not follow the blower speed wheel up at all until key off and restart.

This is particularly troublesome when getting into a hot car and wanting the maximum cooling effect right away.

Also I have noticed that the fans in front of condensor/radiator do not come on either under these conditions. Seems to me thats when they would be most needed to cool the car quickly. Is low freon suspected when max cool does not engage cond. fans?

Any insight appreciated.

Check the filters!

Is your A/C cold when it gets going?

Yes it's fair cooling , but never was very cold.

AC is cool and the AC Blower fan runs at high speed after a slow down, but only if you key off and restart the engine.

Of course it does not cool the car off quickly running at blower speed "slow".

I have a AC temp probe which reads about 50 F on a 90 F day.

I'm puzzled by how blower gradually slows down (in abt 1 minute) when the auto, and recirculate buttons are pushed.

I observed today that if I select the upper outlets, (not Auto), the slow down of blower speed does not occur. But today was not nearly so warm. Only about 80F.

Both cabin filters were replaced last September. The old ones that had been in the car 10 years were not very dirty, and no real improvement in air flow was noticed. I was not having the Blower slow down difficulty at that time however.

Thanks for responding.....

on auto mine hates to blow full speed unless i've just started the car up and it's like 90 degrees.

I pushed my recirc button today and it didn't do as you described however... so that definitely is a problem. I'd ask a dealer mechanic.
