WD40 Saved the day - Twice

I know you are not supposed to use WD40 on any rubber or plastic parts, but as a last resort its an amazing product.

Last year my High beam stalk, or what Mercedes calls the "Optical Horn Feature" stopped working. I removed the little plastic cover on the side of the steering column and sprayed some electrical contact cleaner in there, hoping it will clean the contacts and get my High beams to work again. Tried that several times with no luck. I then sprayed some WD40 and within seconds my High Beams started working again, and have been working properly ever since.

Last week, my driver's side seat adjustment switch would not raise my seat anymore. I pried the little black button out and again sprayed some electrical contact cleaner, nothing. Tried that several more times and still no luck. Again as a last resort I sprayed a bit of WD40, wiped up the excess, and almost instantly the switch started working again. Its been working fine ever since.

Moral of the story is that if all else fails, its worth trying WD40. It may just work for you. Just don't over do it, and wipe off any excess immediately.

Phil
