560 SL oil change tip

Have you ever tried to find a 14mm allen wrench to remove the oil drain plug? I tried to no avail. What does work though is the head of a 9/16" bolt and a pair of vise grips on the threaded end.

Maybe because it takes a 13mm wrench?

Oops, my bad. Sometimes you get lucky at auto parts stores like Autozone and Kragen. You can get a 14mm allen key at Napa then cut off a couple of inches to use with your socket set.

A little more elegant than vice grips is to jam a couple of nuts onto the bolt that takes a 9/16" wrench then turn the jammed nuts.

Yes, but I'm too cheap for nice tools. I had a nice offset bit for M116/7 head bolts but I don't remember who I lent it to Otherwise part of the fun is getting around special tools.
