Thumbs down C220 Start up - REVS to 2500 RPM then drops

Hey guys, I've began to develop a new problem with my C220. When I start the car up, simply a turn of the key, the car starts up, then it feels like someone(like a ghost) is accelerating my car and I'll see the tach go flying past 2500 RPM, and hold for a second or two and then drop down to normal...Does anyone know what's going on? THanks

p.s. I still can't solve my coolant leak/missing situation

The butterfly flap in the idle control/throttle valve can become contaminated with gunk from the cambox breather on these engines and can cause rough idling problems. Disconnect the cross tube over the cambox for access and clean out the throat and the butterfly valve with meth spirit or similar solvent on a cloth and/or brush.
Also check the throttle return springs are in place and not broken, there is a coil spring on the front of the throttle valve which breaks and drops down, not obvious unless you know it's there.

thanks for the response. I think what you're saying is bang on. This problem did infact start shortly after I did my spark plugs. Inorder to do the plugs, I had to remove the componets you're talking about. Also I did take a cloth and softly attempt to clean it....after that this problem began.

Please describe the following "throttle return springs are in place and not broken, there is a coil spring on the front of the throttle valve which breaks and drops down, not obvious unless you know it's there."

How can I check for this, and diagnose the problem?and also how can i correct the problem? Thanks

If you cant find the spring on your car then it probably fell down and then during driving left the engine compartment god knows where. Order a new one. If you cant figure out where it goes after getting it, someone might be able to provide a pic.

I think the problem is SOLVED?!?

After getting my starter changed on my car. I took my battery off and left it sitting around over night, I was thinking of changing it before i decided not to bother with it. After I put my battery in, my car's settings were reset, the check engine light and everything dissapeared. Its been a couple of days and I've driven my car everywhere, and this problem has not come back. I wonder if it was my starter that was staying engaged and causing this problem before dying? or did removing the battery simply reset the car and rid it self of this problem?

Before anyone else disconnects the battery to reset you're car, make sure you have you're radio code ready....but car drives great.
