Broken front springs, mechanic says it's okay!

While changing front wheel bearings, front brake discs, moonlighting (home -garage)certified-Mercedes mechanic noticed that the front coil springs (lowest coil but only half of one cir cle on both sides accoding to him)are broken.
He informed me that he's turned the coil springs accordingly on both sides to seat them properly and that it's okay not to change them.I've been using it for 6 months now.He said that the front may be sitting at most 1 cm lower.
Recently I've installed new rear Bilstein Comfort shocks and noticed the front is sitting a bit lower(NATURALLY LOWERED SPRINGS)

Is it really Ok to drive with half a coil lower on both sides?Or should I change them with the Lesjfor supplied by Worldpac?
