w124 hazards switch broke - replace?

If I remove the center console up to the ashtray, then remove the stereo, can I get at the Hazards switch from behind? Mine's busted and I use to thank people who move over when I pass.

Anyone know the best way to fix this?

you don't have to do all that work. There are two small screws just above the radio (below the climate control). Take these out, then the wood trim will come out. Pull it out at the bottom (near the radio) first and lift the bottom part out and down so that you don't break the little tabs at the top. With this out you should have access to the switch panel with the hazard switch in it.

Thank you sir! After posting this, I got a little more familiar with my dash and found those two screws. Thanks for answering.

Some of these switchs are interchangable. I just got one off e bay for 5$ plus 4$ shipping. Like new. It came off a 124 and i used it on my 201. Do a search on e bay and compare parts. If you look up parts on this site you will find that MB uses the same parts for many cars.

Similar situation

I am in a similar situation, except the difference is my Rear Window Defroster switch is broken. I have managed to get the wood panel off, and the first set of plastic bracket off also (held on by 6 screws). Now, how do I actually get the switch off?

Thanks,

Most w123 and w124 switches are held in place with spring tabs on the ends meaning the long ends of the switch.
Press one in and press forward towards the inside of the cabin. Repeat for the other end and the switch pops out.

You'll want to replace the switch since the turn signals also run through it. If it fails completely the signals will quit too.
