Thud - sounds like transmission area, but is it
When I brake hard, there is a thud noise under the gearshift type area.
How can I tell more specifically what to fix. It may be a mount type thing. The thud come when I stop "hard", stopping soft has no noise. No noise when I stop when going in reverse - hard or soft. There is no feel while driving, nothing in drive train or steering. Just don't know what it is. Noise "may have" been there before I changed the flex disk, and transmission mount. Then again, I may have broken something when I fixed the flex disk. Your wisdom is appreciated. |
i had a clunk that happened when i stopped. on my 240/300d. replaced a bunch of front end bushings which i thought were slopping around before finally finding that one of the small allens that held down the ds motor mount was broken off and it was letting the mount rotate.
drove it that way for maybe three years! good luck tom w |
You have a bad front flex disc.

the front flex disk was replaced
Before replacing it - he flex disk was loose to the touch and it was broken.
Now, with the new flex disk - by hand all seems tight. The flex disk bolts were torqued The engine mounts were never replaced - 14 years and 215K miles ago. |
