'94 E500 Automatic Transmission Wierdness?
Hi folks -
I have a well-worn (260k km) E500 which I drive pretty constantly and love madly. It has 17" AMG Monoblocks, a PAD chip, an 'non-intrusive' (ie, emptied) catalytic converter, and K&N filters, but is otherwise stock. About 6 months ago I replaced the engine wiring harness which had basically rotted away & was causing spurious warnings AND ASR/Limp mode transistions. This solved the Limp Home situation, but somehow something has caused the ABS/ASR lights to be on CONSTANTLY, and for both the anti-slip and ABS systems to be non-functional. Aside from this, my transmission (which I have had rebuilt and SEEMS to be perfect) doesn't seem to want to stay OUT of first gear - ie, when I kick-down above 40 MPH is STILL drops into 1st (which is a rush ) but leaves me with 2 seconds of accelleration before it goes WAY past redline... And the the flooded engine knocks and pings for a good 2 mins. I admit to LOVING the ASR defeat misfeature and being able to deal with the ABS non-existance, and the ability to downshift to 1st at running speeds is REALLY convinient in the city... but when I'm trying to join freeway traffic, not being able to stay OUT of 1st is a terror. Is it possible that all those functions, including the shift-point on my transmission, are being kyboshed by a failure of speed-indicator calibration? I know the anti-slip system determing slip by measuring the speed of the tires? Any thoughts would be most appreciated! Johnny www.SS4G.com email: JohnnyS@SS4G.com

OTHER than the kick-down solenoid that transmission is completely mechanical.
The first thing to try is disconnecting the kickdown solenoid & driving that way.

Some how you have deactivate the rev limiter, check the wiring for the kick down solenoid, is it wired correctly. Try fixing the other non working components
