1992 300 CE Rough Idle
My 1992 300CE (104.980 engine) has developed a rough idle, but performs well under a load....Ignition components check out good..Compression check reveals 100psi on cyl 2,3,4,and 5. #1 is 125 and 6 110. Recommendations range from replacing fuel distributor and injectors to valve job...My question is would the fuel distributor and injectors from a 300e 6cyl engine be a suitable replacement for my 24 valve engine? I prefer to start with the least invasive proceedures first and save the top overhaul as a last resort...I would appreciate any experienced comments on my problem...

My Daughters 91 300ce Did Same Thing. Took It To Several Dealers. Finally I Fixed It. New Motor Mounts, Oxygen Sensor, Ovp, And Look For Bad Vacuum Hoses.
She Cannot Believe It Is Same Car When She Drove It. It Took Us A Year Of Fooling Around To Finally Have It Smooth Out. I Think Motor Mts And Oxygen Sensor Helped The Most. |

300CE Rough Idle and Hesitation on acceleration
I am curious as to what the motor mounts have to do with the engine rough idle and hesitation on acceleration..
Thanks, Tcheairs |

We're kind of curious why you didn't mention the hesitation to begin with
I think your engine has more in common with the 94/95 E320 engine than with the 300E single overhead cam older one. 95 E320 M104 poor idle and flat spot M104 rough idle and vibration issues finally put to rest Also this engine suffers from the infamous wiring harness degradation problem. |
