help! 260e stalling

I have a 1987 260E and a few weeks ago I was sitting in the car idle when it stalled. I Had the grandparent's in the car- grandpa a former Mercedes mechanic- said that he thinks the fuel pump just went out. After about 20 minutes of sitting the car did re-start. Didn't have any other problems. Then a few days later the same thing. Now it is everytime I drive it. I put it in the shop and they said it was the ignition module. After calling Mercedes for one, and finding out the 2600 price tag, I went to the junk yard to find one. I installed the new part drove it around, and no problems. Thought it was fixed, but again i left it idle after driving (only 30 seconds) and it stalled again. Has anyone else had this problem or direct me in the right direction on what I should be looking for? I look forward to all responses. Thanks
jason

Usually, if the ignition module is sahgged, the car will stop and not restart. ever. Is sounds like your fuel pump relay needs resoldering.

hopefully this will be helpful

I had a 88 300E .when the hotter weather came the car started to stall for no reason.changed the voltage regulator , a few other things.Make the long story short..someone at mercedes told me to take out the computer(behind the battery , under the hood) The car will start up in a kind of safe mode(higher fuel consumption, slower acceleration but IT WILL GET YOU HOME!!!...lol BTW show me another car which will do that!!!) Now if you drive the car around for a day or 2 and the stalling doesnt reoccure, the problem is 99% with the computer. You can get a new one or used one but what i did is......... (i remembered that german printed circuits gave my problems already before ,poped up printed circuits, loose soldering joint,)...took the comp out, seperated the 2 inside panels and reheated all joints ...appr 200.....and drove the car for another 150000 no problem. But thats just how i solved it.

If it fails to start and run right off the bat, you could have a fuel pump relay issue as mentioned above.

If it dies after driving 15-20 mi and won't start 'til it cools off, your elect. fuel pump(s) are shot. You either have 1 or 2 pumps - some 103 cars have 1; some have 2.

Another part to consider is the infamous OVP - overvoltage protection relay and finally, check all vacuum hoses - many opportunities here.

I forgot to mention in my first post on this issue that i have already replaced the fuel pump. I did mention to the mechanic about items mentioned above. I thank you for your help. I miss the car to drive back and forth to work.

Check the Coil to see how hot it is when it stalls, if hot, hot to the touch then the coil is heading south on you. Also check the crank sensor line on the Ignition Module, when they start to go bad and the resistance gets to the edge of its limit then heat is added due to warm engine then they go out of spec and the engine will not run til they cool enough to be back in range.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but what with the crank sensor line, the wire, sensor or plug? And what is the fix? (I have a limp issue on hot days only)...

It's fixed. I just picked it up late last night. My mechanic said to come and pick it up. Will tell you later what was wrong when i pay the bill... But it was a very simple fix! Thanks for everyone's help.
