124 wagon rear wheel bearing

I've heard that S124 rear bearings are a real PITA to replace. Has anyone here DIY'd these units? I believe these can't be done in situ unless one uses the special MB tool specifically designed for the S124. I have a shop press, but would like to know if there are any specifics tips I should know before taking my car out of commission and R&R-ing a sloppy LR bearing.

TIA
