Same with M104, but it is easier IMO to pull the fan shroud (an additional 5minutes) first.

Strap wrench worked perfectly for me:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00945533000P?keyword=00945533000&sLevel=0

I messed around with that bolt forever, but once I went out and bought the wrench it was a 10 second job and it unbolted right away. Don't hack up your hands trying to get that bolt out.. just grab a strap wrench and you'll be done quickly!

Where is this hole that you guys are talking about. What about the tensioner, shouldn't it be used when changing the serpentine belt.

There is no hole in the OEM water pump flange on 601/602/603 engines!

Thanks. What is the easiest way to adjust the tension on a 602 engine. I changed my serpentine belt last week and I must say that it was a PITA to get it back on. There is some squeaking going on, but it stops when I apply soap to the belt. I beleive that I just need to tighten the belt a little more. I was under the impression that the tensioner was self adjusting..if this is the case why would I have to tighten the belt manually? Unfortunately I didn't check this forum before I started the process.

There is no "adjustability" on the OM60X series engine serpentine belt tensioners. The spring applies tension; the shock dampens movements of the tensioner. The serpentine belt R&R procedure is fairly straight forward and should not be very difficult if the procedure is followed. The squeaking if you’re certain is a belt issue rather than a tensioner pulley issue is an annoyance that would likely only be cured with a new belt of some type of belt dressing on its outside non-grooved surface. It the squeaking is the pulley the cure is a new pulley.

There are a couple recent threads regarding the R&R of both the serpentine belt alone as well as others regarding the tensioner and related parts, if you search.

I don't mind checking the pulleys. How do I do that? In others words, what am I looking/listening for. Again...this hasn't been answered yet.....what is the simplest way to put on another sepentine belt? What tools do I need(it took me 3 hours to get the belt back on when I did it 2 weeks ago)

Here is a link to one of the threads where this has been discussed:

http://www.peachparts.com//shopforum/showthread.php?t=258408&highlight=pulley+spinning+tool

With regard to the pulley squeaking, the easiest way to diagnose this would be to carefully spray something like WD40 onto the tensioner pulley's bearing, start the engine and if the squeaking is gone then the pulley bearing is on its way out and would need to be replaced.

The tensioner pulley is the only one that stands by itself, other pulleys are part of the PS pump, the alternator, the AC compressor which all could have sqeaks of their own.
