I Was Wondering If Anyone Can Tel Me What The Device Is I Circled On The Picture? What Is It For, And It Seems That It Must Get Constant 12volt?

What Is This And What Does It Do?

Thanx

Valve On Solex

I DONT THINK IT IS CHOKE RELATED, AS THIS CARB HAS THE CHOKE ASS. ON THE SIDE, AND THIS CARB HAS THE WATER HEATED MIXTURE PISTON AS WELL. SO I DONT THINK IT IS A CHOKE, ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS:confused:

Hit Man X 07-17-2006 04:51 AM

Well I haven't picked up the 280S with a Solex so aside from that guess I haven't an idea. :o

Also, please turn off the caps lock. :)

Valve on Solex

Sorry about the caps. I think that this valve has something to do with float vent:confused:
Maybe M.B. Doc can shed some light on this:rolleyes:

Hit Man X 07-17-2006 05:04 AM

Maybe it's to compensate for idle when the A/C is on?

280Sbenz 07-17-2006 06:55 AM

that is a float chanber vent valve which only works under certain circumstances, for example when the choke is on

M.B. DOC can u perhaps help me with this valve?

Thank you in advance

Solenoid for venting the float bowl (hesitation)...only on very late euro engines.....

solex carb

i believe that the valve you have pictured is a shut off valve designed to prevent dieselling when the car is shut off.the wire going to it is power all the time when key turned on.now, this carb is junk.it is made of aluminum and as such IT WILL WARP causing you to believe that the gaskets have failed.it's best use is as fishing weight.company called J.A.M. engineering in california came up with direct replacement of modified holley[100 times better]easy fit even for novice.david poole european performance dallas tx 2149567007.

My erudite friend, DSP is correct.....it is an idle fuel/air circuit shut off valve.
Closed with ign' off. Prevents run on after koeo.

Most all european manufactured carb's for cars/trucks had one installed from about 1968 on. Pierburg/Solex etc..... with the exception of S.U. who used a manifold air valve that was open with koeo.. Ford used one too, to stop the engine running on with the crappy ( Constant depression. ) variable choke Autolite carb, ie: Escort/Mexico/1.3/1.6/2000etc .
