Well this is what happend
I was driving my W126 SD...
and i heard a pop..
looked under the hood and pulled a broken AC compressor belt.
Next day.. dricing heard a squealch..stearing went outand sounded like a bird chirping..
looked under the hood and there goes my belt to my power stearing.
also noticed that the 1st belt to the altinator was gone aswell. although the 2nd one was running it fine.
Now.. i when i start the car it squeals for the first 500-1500 rpm.. but then it goes away.. what could this be whats causing all of this belt breaking and squealing?

thanks

I think you've got a jammed compressor.

Ps. how does it feel driving a tank without power steering?

McGyver lives

I lost an alternator belt during a landspeed record attempt in Ontario once. It took out a transmission cooler line and promptly lubricated a mile of pavement. I found a tubing cutter and dissected an errant golf club found in the trunk. A couple of hose clamps and 6 quarts of trans fluid were all I had to buy from the gas station that we limped in to. Needless to say, I slept in my own bed that night.
I tell my friends "I can crawl into the backseat for a nap on the New York Thruway, the car drives so well."
