hello guys
I am new on this web and I have just bought my first mercedes. it is a 190E 2.3 L 1987( automatic trans). But I have problems that are getting me very frustrated, let me list them for u and hope that I can receive some helps: 1- I have no light on the dashboard, odometer, clock are not working( I have changed most of the fuse) 2-the car seems to reach a temperature of 100 F or close to 120 , I've checked if the fan was turning and it does at a really slow speed( is there a belt for the fan what's the problem?: 3-A/C once I turn it on, all I am getting is hot air, what's the prob? 4-What's the size of the speakers for those kind of mercedes? 5- the car has the tendency to stall if u are trying to stop or make 3 steps turn. the hose to the carburetor was damaged, I changed it but once in a while the car stall 6-the rear power window is not going down at all. As u can see I am having lot of issue. I bought the car for my fiancee, I am trying to get her to be independent from her parents. Please Please help I know that mercedes is a great brand and I have been dying to own one. Give the knowledge to fix all those probs Sincerely |

The engine fan uses a electro-magnet to lock up at 100C..fuse, relay, & switch.
The center vents will never put out heat..if you are getting heat from the outer vents & OR footwells then you have a vacuum loss in the system.

Thanks M.B. doc for the tip. I really appreciate this.
But where can I find the vaccum hose? Is there a repair book that will teach a step by step ? |

Someone brought to my attention that I need to change the fan clutch, what do u think? could it be the part of my problem?I did find un blown fuse and it seems to protect the fan.

Before you change the fan clutch see first if it's working.
There's a thermoswitch (red with 3 prongs) on the front driver side of the engine head. Take of the plug and jumper the sockets in any order you like. One is power, aux fan and clutch fan. If they work then just change the switch. For the stalling, if you have a digital meter, first take a DC volt reading on sock 2 and 3 of the diagnostic port ( covered by a round screw on cap behind the driver side headlight ). Do this and I'm sure a lot of guys can help you from there. |

BTW, you can do the fan test with key on/engine off

Hey Guys wandering if any one can help me..
I own a 1991 mercedes 2.3 sohc 190e i have a slight problem of smelling like petrol coming from under the hood.. after inspection it seems to be coming down my intake manifold.... i have had the fuel distributor replaced in the past.. ![]() |
