Air Conditioning Questions

I have a 1995 C280 with Climate Control and Im not sure if the air conditioning is working properly. When going uphill, speeding up quick, or anytime the car has any load, the fan stops working until normal driving conditions exists. Tried multiple settings, same problem; with recirc on, auto on, fan speed on, etc. Is this normal??

In the past with other cars, this indicated a vacuum leak somewhere.

That's actually normal. Most cars nowadays have electronic controls and such that cut off the A/C compressor at heavy / full throttole conditions to maximize power throughput to the car's wheels. Cutting the fan off as well is just another way of cutting even more resistence by way of the alternator.

I agree; however, if you find the system doing this under moderate or slight acceleration (anytime the manifold vacuum drops), then you may have a leak in your vacuum system. I had this happen just recently, albeit it was not an MB. My 2001 Ford PU would loose the airflow under the slightest load or acceleration. With the engine running while standing outside the engine bay, I could hear, and finally find the leak. a bit of 3M electrical tape and I was back in business 'til I could procure a splice and fix properly.

This car has vacuum lines everywhere (bumper, doors, trunk and all over the engine compartment). When I start the car, the vacuum pump stays on for 2-3 minutes. I may have a leak somewhere but where do I start looking?

Under the slightest load, I lose the fan. But the air temperature dont appear to fluctuate. When I just use the EC setting, the window shield fogs up and heat can be felt coming from the defroster and floor vents. Isnt it a module under the hood that controls the heater?

Also, this is not a late model car.. Its a 1995 model. So, should it do this?

Can anyone help me figure this out? Im in 100+ temperature here, in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic with AC that cuts out the blower everytime I pull away from a stand-still. Im gonna suffocate here.
Help! ! !

Update: Had the AC system checked at the stealership... Its normal for the AC blower to turn off when accelerating. This gives power to the wheels.

That sucks.. BTW, the sterio also will increase & decrease when accelerating and stopping. Maybe this will help someone with this model Mercedes...
