Hi
when I drove off this morning i shifted from 1st to 2nd and the clutch petal stayed to the floor,,I made it home like that and started to investigate the problem ..the 1st thing I did was pull the petal back up now it won't go back down..You can push on it with 2 feet and it won't budge..so before i get into this problem where should i start 1st?...I would appreciate any help I can get This is a 1982 240d By the way.. thanks for your time ![]() |

you need to go under the dash and check the pedal/linkage.
something came apart. george |

Help!! clutch petal stayed to the floor
I did that and didn't see anything lose and then I cracked open the line to the cyclinder and the pedal came down . I then snugged the line back up and its still the same way..

then go to the slave cyl and open the bleed screw.
if it goes down then you know its in the slave/clutch mechanism. if it doesn't go down then it might be the clutch hose. just work yer way down. george |

Help!! clutch petal stayed to the floor
I will check those things out tomorrow 1st thing..That clutch hose was replaced in late spring,,But the guy who did it i've had some doubts about.Just for the record is that a special hose? maybe he used some sort of cheep stuff..I would of did it myself but had a shoulder opperation at the time..

I had the same problem with my 124 86 m/t there are two things you have to replace
1.replace clutch input assembly( located underneath your dash near the pedal) 2.replace clutch output assembly( located at the left side of your tranny visible when you pop your hood left side when standing infront of your car) * replace both to have a sure shot repair done on your car * you are losing a lot of clutch fluid while sleeping on the problem ![]() ------------------good luck------------------- now my benz drives like a champ! |

I too had the clutch pedal going occasionally soft after a high speed run (190 kph +) but perfectly normal at normal city speeds.... But last week, after a high rev mountain trip, the clutch pedal suddenly went right down to the flloor boards with the car stuck in 1st gear !!! Lifting it manually wouldn't bring it up, it just flopped right back !!! I had to stall the car to stop. I thought I had lost all the fluid, but a few seconds later, the pedal slowly came to life. Pumping it brought it back to normal, and after running a few kilometres through the gears, the pedal was 100% normal !!! After a lot of thinking, I can only attribute this to the clutch plate having got stuck to the flywheel during the high speed runs.... At slow speeds, it would engage & disengage normally. Slippng the clutch for a few Kms until it smelled, seems to have resolved the problem for now !!
