Did you adjust the neutral start switch when you installed it? The quick way is to set the selector to reverse and turn the switch such that it rests at the midpoint of the arc that illuminates the reverse lights.

Is there fore-aft play in the shift lever? If so then fit new bushings to the shift rod that bridges the shift lever and the transmission.
