Engine Won't Turn % !!

I could sure use some trouble help...

My '97 E300D (130K) will not . The display screen says display defective and ETS EL. Traction Support.

Have Tried:
1. Battery out and tested- Good
2. Starter out and tested- Good
3. Tried using the other key fob in case it was the DAS system.

When turning the key to try and have the engine with the lights on, they do not dim. The blower motor, however, does drag down to nothing.
A couple of times when trying to , I could hear almost a sound of the starter or solenoid trying to engauge, but barely.

The tranny was replaced at 109K so seems like the sensor like a neutral
safety switch would still be fine.

ANY IDEAS OUT THERE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks,
Larry

K40 or ignition switch?

I decided it was worth a try to tap on the K40 relay to see if that could be my starter circuit problem. Well, after doing that the car ed and started after a couple of tries putting the key to the start position.

Things are very intermitent right now. Works and then stops working.

Does anyone think replacement of the K40 is the best next try?
Or could it be the ignition switch?

Thanks for reading! IDEAS??
Larry

Post #15 of this post shows a K40 which may be the same as yours or not. E300 turbo, ultimate diesel or bad joke?

Apparently they develop minute cracks in the solder connections on the circut board?

If you repost 6am Monday morning more techs will be around and you will probably get some good advice with your problem.

At least it started.

Fixed the K40 relay

You people on this forum ROCK!
I opened up the K40 relay today and inspected it. Not really much in there but what is is important. I thought I saw a line across one of the aluminum bars they use as ribbons. It wasn't until I took a tweezers and gave a bit of a twist, did I see a open up. I ended up finding 3 hairline in all.
Soldered them and put in a new fuse (one of them wasn't blown but had a black splotch on both sides of the fuse near the top).

Put the K40 back in the car and fired off the first revolution and several since. Yesterday, it ed only intermitently.

I am confident that it is now fixed and I saved a BUNCH of money thanks to the people who have posted helpful info on this forum.

Thanks,
MB Paba
