No, gas fumes into the cabin are never considered "normal"

gas smell

during "spirited" driving one usually explores the upper limits of the rev range which in turn means that the engine fan is turning much faster and blowing air back towards the cabin.i think that if you remove the air filter housing you will find a fuel leak on the fuel distributor or lines,or possibly the eha [black thing on the side of the fuel distibutor]. pull the plug off the eha and see if the female pins are wet.it may need replacing.

Remove the air cleaner housing. Then look directly below it. The fuel distributor will have 6 metal fuel lines coming off it and going up to the head just above the intake manifold at each cylinder. The EHA is a black plastic part bolted to the right side of the distributor, if my memory is right.

Look for leaks at all connections to the distributor but don't try taking the distributor apart . It hasn't yet happened to me but I've read on this forum of the o-ring between the EHA and the distributor failing and leaking gas.
