Giving background information to the guys here in bits and pieces is only going to irritate them. Can you start from the beginning and give the full story?

Bought the car for 3400$ and fix it...valve body,part and labor and diagnostic=750$,runs like new,for now...

Getting confused, we seem to have 2 people getting involved in this thread, are 92300SE and BusterS320 the same person??? Same car??

I started the tread...then somebody else jumped on it with the same issue.

The second guy said he was stuck in 1st, I assumed he meant the SHIFTER is stuck in 1st, not the tranny itself. Sorta the opposite of your problem. Here I thought YOU replaced the tranny. Whew! So you're all fixed up, but they replaced the valve body to fix a shifter that wouldn't go down lower than "D", huh? No idea how these 2 problems are related. Unless I misunderstood the problem.

Yes, it did seem rather bizarre and some of the replies were almost to the point of being rude. Strange.

Year and model of your car will be helpful.

P0763= 3-4 shift solenoid electrical circuit fault, yes it could be the solenoid, or wiring harness, conductor plate and or Transmission control module. Was this the only code in all the modules.

Did you clear all codes when the used transmission was installed. TCM and valve bodies are a match set, which TCM did you use with the used transmission; you could have fixed one drivability problem and caused another. Any new codes or do you still have PO763.

I didn't mean to get everyone confused. I have a 97 S320. I think I have the same problem as the original thread. The difference is my shifter can go into any postion on the shifter. but when I drive it, it never up shifts out of first gear.

P0763 was the only code that shows and yes I reset the code when I installed the used tranny. I used the old TCM. and no there was no new code. P0763 continues to show up.

Just reread this thread. I had my 140 on a lift the other day and saw some wiring on the bottom of the transmission. Was surprised that they had wiring exposed on the bottom of the car.

What is Limp-home?

Limp Home is like a factory "fail safe" that will keep the car moving. What gear it will be in (there will only be 1 gear) is dependent on the type of failure. I think it's usually either 2nd or 4th, it depends on what the type of failure is. This is assuming it's not some major failure, and the trans still has fluid,, etc. It was explained in the class I took to be intended to be an emergency mode, say to get you "across the railroad tracks", you're only supposed to drive it enough to get to a safe place to get it on a flatbed and to a shop.

The transmission will not shift until you find the cause of “P0763 continues to show up” it could be a defective harness or TCM, next step is to remove the harness and check for fluid contamination, if non, disconnect the transmission harness plug (DISCONCET THE BATTERY NEAGATIVE TERMINAL FRIST) at the transmission control module and do a electrical resistance solenoid test.

Ok now I changed out a new TCM and a new error code comes up. P0700. Do I need to program the new TCM?

I have the same problem with a 97 c230. took to a transmision shop. They said car needs a new tranny computer( had fluid in it??) and rebuilt unit. however they did not give me the codes. Check engine light is on.

all they seem to want to do is throw a rebuilt unit in the car, no other info was given.

I have a friend who is going to scan the codes out on Sat.

Same issues possibley??
