CLS500 Seat Heater
My wife wants to add a heater to the driver's seat on her 06 CLS500, my questions are:
Is the car prewired for a seat heater? If so, what do I need to install the heater? I have found aftermarket parts but I prefer to use OEM MB parts. This is the first MB we (she) have owned. So far even using the Nav system is far too complex for me. Thanks in advance. Marty |

As per OEM specs, the seat heater elements are actually stitched right under the leather and above the foam padding so that you can feel the heat more. If you were to retrofit elements, these would have to be installed under the foam pad so the heat transfer would be a bit less effective. Original parts would include the switches, wiring and perhaps a control module. w211 cars went to a separate control module in 06 so the CLS may have this as well. The control module times the heater on time.

CLS500 Seat Heater
Thanks for you reply..
I just left Mercedes of Richmond, per the Service Manager, the car does not have provisions for a heated seat unless it came that way from the factory. He said the dealership cannot retrofit or add this option to a car, but he referred me to an shop that installs aftermarket "Stuff" on MB cars. He said at least one customer has had heated seats added by this shop without any known issues. It is hard for me to believe that MB does not prewire the CLS500, for what the car costs it would seem heated seats would be standard or at least have provisions for a dealer installed heating element. Many cars that cost half what I paid have standard heated seats. I guess you get what you pay for...... |

I have retrofitted many things in my car that it never came with http://homepage.mac.com/drsunilpatel/PhotoAlbum14.html
If a few pennies saves the company money then I am sure the company will leave prewiring out. Multiply that times the number of cars they sell. I installed vented/heated and orthopedic seats in my car. You can definitely do it though. It's not a very hard retrofit. |
