300E dies after 5 seconds
My 1988 300E will start as soon as the key is turned but shuts down after approximately 5 seconds. Turn the key again immediately and it fires right up but dies after the 5 seconds. It is almost like there is a cutoff switch on either the fuel or the electrical that kills it after this amount of time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

check OVP fuse
Does the check engine light come on at the same time...> If fuse is ok...it still could be the OVP... if it rattles when shaken... it's shot.

Same thing happened to a donorcar I had a year ago; Reason was I forgot to attach a wire to the diagnostic socket (round thing on the left inner wheelwell) after removing the RPM-gauge and its wire - this meant that the fuelpump only ran in startup-mode, awaiting the ECU to take over.

sounds like the fuel pump relay is not working.it is located behind the battery with the 'klima' relay.
