89 300 Sel S-l-o-w Acceleration
Hello all. My 89 300 SEL seems to be very sluggish off the line. New fuel filter and fresh tune up but very slow off the line. Fuel system seems clean and vehicle runs great and gets good mileage but unless you floor it and force a downshift to first it is slow. We have had this car for over 4 years and it has performed flawlessly. Any questions/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks Steve

89 300sel
you are probably running the the a /c and the pressure in the high side is dragging power from engine.are your aux fans running and is the fan clutch in good shape? either of these can cause eccessive pressure which makes compressor clutch drag on the belt and rob power.

Has it always been like this? Maybe a heavy car with a 6 cylinder just doesn't have the power? But, not sure if this works on your model year transmission, but, try this.
While stopped, in drive, with foot on brake, shift to the low gear position, then back into drive. This sets a one time first gear start. It works in my SL. And the car launches much better.
