More Transmission Problems

Hello all, new member here in Missouri. I just purchased an 86 300E that suddenly will not shift out of 2nd gear. What what I have read in the forums it is the governor. I called my local MB dealer and they want 334.00 for a new governor plus 258.00 for a new flywheel. I've read where some have purchased the governor kit to rebuild the governor...I'd like to know who I can purchase the parts from. I'm interested in a good used flywheel if anyone has one for sale. Any information is much appreciated.

LEM

Thanks for the link John, my proble is that my local dealer wants to sell me the entire governor instead of the parts to rebuild it. ANy idea where I can find the parts or should I just buy the governor and be done with it?

thanks!!

That’s a great link but that car has a 722.3 transmission no plastic governor gear, you could have a stuck kick down solenoid switch under the gas pedal, with the ignition key on press the pedal all the way down you should hear a click under the gas pedal, if you don’t the switch is stuck on, disconnect the power plug at the switch, then road test the car.

Okay, I checked the kick down switch. It was clicking, so it much be working...I guess, I did go ahead and unplug it and then drove the car...it remained the same.....but it would still kick down...figure that one out. At any rate....any other suggestions? I did purchase a warranteed used transmission for the car just in case.

ahh yeah that makes sense seeing as thats just what I went though with a .3 and found the metal gears.

Sorry to say I didnt take the time to try this or that- I replaced it last weekend. Keep us posed with what you find out- I have two 722.320 transmisions sitting here in my garage that wont shift from 2nd.

John,

I probably won't go too much into the tranny myself as I have one on the way to me now...probably will save a lot of time and be much easier to just change the transmission out and tinker with the old one when I have more time. I will post if I find anything unusual with the transmission. I have to replace the "ring gear" "flywheel" what ever it is called anyway so it would have to be removed regardless.

Thanks for the help!!

Parts

Try Pull-a-part or other salvage places. Just a thought.
