What is the purpose of the EHA?

Back in February I posted my problem regarding hesitation when accelerating from a standstill. Many thanks to all members that offered suggestions. I have finally gotten around to disconnecting the EHA to see what difference it would make. The first thing I noticed was that the electrical connector and pins on the EHA were covered in a red coloured sticky fluid. After running the car with the EHA disconnected the hesitation has gone. I have cleaned the connector and pins with electronic cleaner but the hesitation is still there (but not as bad) with the EHA is reconnected.
Can anyone tell me anything about the EHA and if it might be faulty ? Is it possible the fluid on the connector is from within the EHA or fuel distributor, i.e. could it be leaking ? Can the EHA be easily replaced or is it normally replaced together with the fuel distributor ?
I have not gone any further with checks on other sensors etc as I am now suspicious of the EHA unit itself.

More than likely the fluid is from fuel that is leaking out of the pins of the EHA. I have replaced MANY. You can purchase one through us if needed. After you replace it, it is a good idea to have the fuel mixture checked and adjusted if needed.

Its purpose is to compensate fuel mixture by changing pressures inside of the fuel distributor.

The "red-sticky fluid" you cleaned off was probably fuel residue from the EHA having a small leak. This is a common problem.

The EHA controls your mixture-fuel pressure, for warm up/full throttle enrichment/ decelleration/ etc. It can be replaced by just unplugging the elec plug & the two screws that hold it to the fuel distributor.
Two things to make sure of:
1-bleed the fuel pressure before loosening the unit- or you risk getting sprayed with fuel. (I recommend-putting a shop towel on top of the unit so it will "catch" any sprayed fuel when you first break the screws loose.

2: make sure to use the new o-rings that come with the new EHA

Will the leaking EHA make the car hesitate upon acceleration or is it some other sensor?
