Easier odometer repair
1 Attachment(s)
Just fixed the odo, wanted to share...
Having owned an 85 Porsche 944, I've done the whole slipping-gear-on-a-VDO repair before. Pulling the whole thing apart, then trying to carefully super glue just the right spot wasn't any fun for me at all. So I was looking to do something different on this one. I was happily surprised to find that the optimum spot for the slipping gear was flush with a nearby ledge. It took all of 3 minutes to cut out a little piece of plexiglass and super glue that in there. (see attachment) The gear now has no room to travel. I even threw a little grease in there for good measure. Took me longer to reconnect the stupid speedometer cable. opinions? |
Hmmm
My assumption is that this is from your 1987 300D. :)

Locktite on the shaft works great, no dissasembly required. I've done this about three times now, all still working six or seven years later.

great idea!
I just had a 300E with the shaft that would fall out, all I did at the time was just out it back in place- lasted all of 10 miles. |
