Easier odometer repair

Just fixed the odo, wanted to share...

Having owned an 85 Porsche 944, I've done the whole slipping-gear-on-a-VDO repair before. Pulling the whole thing apart, then trying to carefully super glue just the right spot wasn't any fun for me at all. So I was looking to do something different on this one.

I was happily surprised to find that the optimum spot for the slipping gear was flush with a nearby ledge. It took all of 3 minutes to cut out a little piece of plexiglass and super glue that in there. (see attachment) The gear now has no room to travel. I even threw a little grease in there for good measure. Took me longer to reconnect the stupid speedometer cable.

opinions?

Hmmm

My assumption is that this is from your 1987 300D.

Locktite on the shaft works great, no dissasembly required. I've done this about three times now, all still working six or seven years later.

great idea!

I just had a 300E with the shaft that would fall out, all I did at the time was just out it back in place- lasted all of 10 miles.
