Sunroof issues
After pulling the headliner out of the car we discovered that someone had really bastardized the sunroof. The spreader bar that the cable attaches to had been welded!
Ordered a replacement part from MB, and the one that came in was too short! Finally figured out that someone had put the trolley's from a 124 chassis car in at somepoint, and had to graft the ends (probably from the 124 spreader) to the ends of the 140 spreader - hence the welds. Broke down and replaced the 2 trolleys and the spreader with 140-correct parts and everything is almost OK. We've set the motor so it knows where open and shut is per the AllData instructions. Sunroof panel seems to sit correctly in the opening. When fully closed, you can raise and lower the panel without issue (never could before replacing the parts). When you retract the roof panel and close it again, just as it gets to the point where the panel should begin to lift at the rear it stops. The motor is still trying to close it, but it seems to jam. The rear of the panel is still 1/2" or more below the roof seal. Pushing upward slightly at the rear allows the closing action to complete without issue and the motor clicks off. There are about 1-million different instructions on AllData as to how to properly adjust the sunroof, and I think I've done everything except to align the trolleys in the frame using the special MB tool, which is now on order. Any suggestions? |
