Transmission Problem E320 94
My car's reverse gear will not engage. I just changed the transmission oil with full synthetic fluid. The problem still exist. Is this the sign of a transmission job? If so, what is the average cost to repair the transmission?
Thanks for the inputs.

I too have a 94 E320 cabrio whose reverse gear will no longer engage. This problem began with reverse just taking longer to engage, but now it's totally gone. I would love to know if this means a new tranny, or just a fix of some sort.

I brought my car to a transmission shop and was told that the tranny needs replacing. It was test-driven and based on their findings, the clucth lining is worn out. The cost to replace it (repair/rebuilt) between 2100 to 2500 dollars. Others ranged from 2500 to 3500 dollar, not dealer's price.

The B3 clutches, or the B3 piston seal are the problem. It's a pretty common problem. It's not exactly a DIY job, though. It basically requires a re-build.
