'86 W126 Sunroof Parts: How Much?
Hi, does anyone know what the dealers price is for the two cast sunroof brackets and the cable guide tube? I'm ashamed to approach the parts desk completely unawares for fear I'll have to back away
![]() I drove my car this evening for the first time with the roof open (the parts were in the trunk) and loved it, so it'll be worth it to repair it. Thanks! |

I'd figure a few hundred bucks. I replaced just about everything up there last winter and it came to like $650-$700.

I got the impression that sunroof repair was a pretty daunting, complicated task that shouldn't be approached by mere mortals. How hard was it, Hat?

Not rocket science. I didn't have to touch the cable, maybe thats hard. I just pulled off the sunroof and had to replace everything else.
Actualy it was a very simple job, I to had been told it would be hard. I figured there was a catch somewhere but never ran into a problem.

Hi, I am a first-timer, and I dont see anything particularly difficult about the sunroof. Mine would not open, so I had to do a little research. I pushed it up on the rear edge from inside and popped the front of the headlining off with a long screwdriver reaching from the rear and between the headliner, then slid it back enough to get the steel panel off, then it's follow the factory manual the rest of the way. There really is not much to the sunroof, as long as it isn't rusted out or damaged. The end of my cable tube is bent, though, so I will go into the headliner (another first for me) soon. So far: new cable, new cable tube; left and right slide brackets; Gleitpaste.
Interesting fact I learned this weekend: Chrysler bought their sunroofs from "the same German company who supplies Mercedes-Benz", according to an old Motor Trend "Annual New Car" issue blurb on the new Chryslers for 1974. Wonder if it's still the same supplier? |
