Push button is Number 2. Press and hold down for 2-4 secs. Then count the number of flashes.

Push Button is only on Cal Versions.. You can acess the codes with a Led/Sw tool
Use pins 1 for ground, 16 for 12v pos and 3 for DM codes.

Hi Arthur,

Do you have a diagram or some detailed instructions to build the Led/Sw tool? I've doing some search but can't find a diagram. Thanks.

This links may help also...

Make sure you read Jim F's page thoroughly.

Thanks for the info guys.

Let me see if I got this right. I can build the led/sw tool. No problem.

Kestas, I'm not sure about codes listed in your link. I have the 16 pin conector and no built in reader (1995 W124 E320)

I understand I must conect ground on pin 1, 12V on pin 16 and...

Emissions codes: which pin? Number 3?
ECU on pin 8
CC/ETA on pin 14

And what about other pins? Code listing for pin 3 and others?

Thanks again.

Juan

I believe the ECU (Pin 8) and CC/ETA (Pin 14) are the emission codes.

I'm not sure how to read or interpret codes from the other Pins.

I'm not sure why my car has a push button on Pin 2. I didn't think it was a California model. But then again, the car went through three leases (three owners) before I bought it in 02 in Florida.

<<I believe the ECU (Pin 8) and CC/ETA (Pin 14) are the emission codes.>>

Those are direct module code access pins.
Emiisions codes are on pin 3 only if you have no built-in LED/w.

That will be the Diagnostic Module { DM ]

I strongly recommend you buy a copy of Jim's Code Manual. It's very helpful.

Lost

Thanks guys.

I build the led/sw tool yesterday. I was lucky I had all the requiered materials at home including a 12V led. Assembly took only 10 minutes. Thanks Arthur. It's a very simple and usefull invention !!:D

Then, I went to read codes in my 95 W124 E320 and found a completly different situation and got totally lost.

My car has the 16 pin connector (square, next to the battery) but it only has real connectors on pins 1, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, and 16. Other numbers are just empty holes w/o connector. So, I can't read codes on pins 3 and 14 as suggested.

I decided to give it a try and got this:

Ground conected to pin 1.
Positive (12V) conected to pin 16.

Plug test lead into pin 6 and got codes number 4, 5, 6 and 8 ???
Plug test lead into pin 7: led always on. No blink. No codes.
Plug test lead into pin 8: nothing happend. No codes. No blink.
Plug test lead into pin 10: nothing happend. No codes. No blink.
Plug test lead into pin 13: one blink. No codes?

I just don't get it. Any imputs ?

Thanks again.

Must not be USA version.
I see you are in Columbia, so I do not know what pins they use.
Are you sure you are reading the pin designations correct?
Go to the site I posted and look up your chassis. The 16 pin Diagnostic box socket orientation is shown on page 11.

Arthur: wow! great document. I'll do some intense reading!

I checked on page 11. That exactly the conector I have but I don't know why is it configured different. I think my car is built in germany and it's ID number is WDB 124032 1C 198390 1 (is this the VIN?) and motor number is 104992 12 076120.

On page 32 I see a table good for the 124.032 but again they talk about pin 3 and I have an empty hole on number 3.

I think my MB is hacked !!! :silly:

Well, thanks again for the info. I´ll do some reading and will let you know if I discover something.

LED code reader

Check here:

skiier3_9's eBay Auctions

He's a MB member sells a LED code reader including instructions on ebay, if you don't want to make it yourself.
