is it normal to see zip-ties on the spark plug connectors?? 97 M119 PICS

i'm still familiarizing myself to MB engine design, and when I lifted the engine cover on my M119 (97 E420), i noticed that each spark plug connector is zip-tied to a metal rod? is this MB factory job, or ??

so when i change the spark plugs later, do i have to take the metal rod thingy out?

PICS

It does not look like any spark plug connector I have ever seen.

Looks like someone was just tidying up the wiring at the fuel injection nozzles to me.

Plugs are under the black covers on the valve covers

You're looking at the fuel rail, I believe.

Those are the fuel injectors. As mentioned the spark plugs are under the black covers, under a coil for each cylinder, perfectly traditional spark plugs once you get to them.

119 Engine

Am I the only one to be concerned about the rust and the corrosion on this engine? I have a '95 E420 with 100K. Hope mine doesn't look like that.

Depends on where it's been - Palm Springs, not likely.

yup, MI car for 9 years. I've had her for about a month now. I heard W210s have a lot of rust problems b/c MB cheaped out on anti-corrosion treatments during assembly.

At least the car is running fine and hopefully she'll last another 4 yrs before I leave MI..
