I have an 87 300E. If the oil level is not near the max mark and I make a hard left hand turn, the light will come on transiently. I think I read in the Mercedes Club magazine in '92 that the oil level sensor had a delay. Is the sensor electronic or is it mechanical? Is it in the sensor unit on the oil pan or somewhere else? Can I just replace the sensor on the oil pan? Thanks for the advice.

The best time to replace the sensor is when changing the oil. IT is located on the driver's side of the oil pan.
The switch is electrical and mechanical. IT has a magnet and a reed switch. I have seen the glass part of the switch fill with oil and cause this situation.

How much oil!!!!
Slightly off topic, last weekend I changed the oil and filter. Now I have the same low oil warning light coming on during hard cornering. I put in 6 liters as per the manual and the dipstick only shows between min and max. Does a 103 engine requires more than 6 liters?
Just curious!!!
