99 mod 220 CDI, not pulling in reverse with cold engine

Hope I can get some help here;-)

The care sometime goes in to limp home mode ore similar max 3000 RPM and goes very bad.
Recycling of ignition and it works OK.

And the care is not pulling in reverse with cold engine in cold weather around freezing. Before it get "warm" couple of minutes.

The care is not giving any code.

MB dealer says it could be MAF ore one sensor on the electronic hydraulic control unit. What sensor?

Have done the following:

Changed ATF fluid, 7 litres.
Cleaned MAF, no change.
Disconnected MAF, no change.
Changed MAF, slightly better.

No limp home after this, but to early to make any conclusion.

After the fluid was changed the car is pulling slightly better with cold engine.

The car is also pulling very bad in drive when cold.

Thanks in advance for any tip ore help!

Max 3000 rpm with no power, followed by restart with normal operation sounds a lot like a malfunctioning MAF, but should occur with CEL and code PO100(?).

Limp home mode should be max 2nd gear.

You need a dealer quality scanner to see/clear the trans codes.

Have you checked the ATF level with the factory dip stick tool at 80C trans fluid temp to confirm it is properly filled and did you use the proper MB fluid?

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately we don't have too many new diesels in the US so knowledge is limited to a few people who have experience with the CDI engines. The last C class diesels in the US were W201 chassis cars. Many people here also like the old diesels because they have very few electronics to go bad. Just our stupid automatic climate control.

Best of luck finding a solution to your problem.

Greetings from New York.

Thanks for all the answere!

The car have been scanned at MB dealer.
They sayd it was no codes.
This was done after the ATF fluid was changed.
So the ATF level should have been checked.
What scanner is recommended if I should by one?

The AT have also been scanned once before at a independent MB AT "spesialist". He also sayd no codes. And the problem could be Electronic Hydraulic Unit. He needed the car overnight to say more...

I will check the ATF level @ 80°C, factory dip stick ordered.
Filled with MB ATF oil, bought for 220 CDI, I will check the type.

It might be only the bad pulling (when cold) problem left.

The generic scanners (the affordable variety) will not pull the trans codes.

If you have 3rd gear and higher you are not in limp home mode.

You've told us your engine type but not the chassis. Is it a E class W210? If so, it should have the 722.6xx trans which requires synthetic fluid which it sounds as if you got as it came from MB.

The 722.6xx is very particular about its fill level. Best thing to do is to have it scanned with MB scanner to confirm fluid is at 80C and to then confirm proper fill level. The second best measurement is using an Infrared thermo on the trans pan. Last choice is driving around a few miles to heat it up. You live where it is cold so that choice should be avoided.

Note this is not coolant temp, but trans temp.
