Changing Motor mounts on 94 E420
so its come to my attention that the motor mounts on my 94 e420 are shot. which explains some things. My question is, whats it like to change motor mounts. is this a DIY? if so what tools do I need? or is this a strictly a "take it to the shop" kinda thing? I've never done motor mounts on any car before, and I am just envisioning it as a ridiculously hard thing to do.

It is very tight on your car - not one of the easier motor mount jobs. On the driver's side you need to remove the exhaust pipe or the AC compressor to get it out. Do you have a quote yet? If it's like 2 or 3 hours of labor I would consider it quite a bargain.

hehe not yet, but i'm gonna call around. But it is possible right? i mean its not like I have to lift the engine with a crane or anything right? but i think its prolly not worth my time trying to fight it. |

I did the mounts on my '94 E320 about a year ago. I removed the fan shroud and jacked the motor at the pan enough to take the weight off the mounts. I had to remove a heat shield on the exhaust manifold side. The other side was much tighter, but manageable with no part removal to get to the mount. I removed the bottom bolts and then jacked the motor as high as would permit and replaced one side at a time. Kind of a balance-push-pull act with a few blocks of wood &some 2X4s. I did not use anything more than a the typicalcompliment of wrenches, sockets, extensions and swivels.

E320 is a walk in the park compared to the 420. Yes, it is possible. You'll probably have to buy some tools. One must be a very committed DIYer.

...to put it mildly.... ![]() hehe, well while I am a "very committed DIYer" this one seems like a little too big a bite. mostly because of time issues. thanks for the input. next project...drag link. |
