Hi all,
I have a 1985 190e 2.3 automatic, there is blowby present at the oil filler cap, but the engine does not use much oil, approx .5 liter in 3000km. I suspect a plug pcv system but can't find any diagrams wrt to how the system is setup. Could some one tell me if the system is prone to plugging, and if so where the offending part is located. I've removed the aircleaner. The hose out of the valve cover and the restrictor valve seem okay.
Thanks in advance.
Neil.

ps websites with discription or diagrams are good to.

The breather system on a 190E isn't really prone to problems. I think what you're seeing (if you pull the filler cap) is normal. On any 4 cylinder engine, two pistons are up and two are down. They do tend to "pump" a little pressure through the crankcase. Also, the cam is spinning and spraying oil all over.
Regards,
Randy D.

Thank you for your comments. Just to clarify this in my mind with the filler cap off there is a fair bit of windage from the pistons normally? I thought it was a block vent system because the valve cover has oil around the oil filler cap, and the air cleaner lid above the inlet for the pcv system looks like it's having air forced against it.
Shouldn't it be drawing air from there, and oil appears to be leaking from the rear of the engine, I was thinking that the rear main might be having oil forced out of it. Does that make any sense?
Thanks again,
Neil.

Thanks,
That sound reassuring. What was it that you clean out in the psv system? It's one of those things I need to check now.
Thanks,
Neil.
