The "5th" bolt that holds down a 300e water pump

I write this thread in hopes of educating anyone that attempts to R&R a water pump on a 300e.

After you remove the three bolts that you can see, and then visit the forum to figure out what in the heck is holding the water pump to the block, there is mention of a 4th bolt that holds the water pump. Well, in my case there were 5 bolts. the 4th one actually is attached to the PS bracket. It isn't until after you remove this "4th" bolt and the water pump still doesn't free up after wallyuping on it with an 8 lb. sledge, that you come to the realization that the "5th" bolt is still holding it on.

Interesting.....I bought a 12" flex socket extension for the sole reason of being able to remove the water pump bolts on my M103...
