260E/300E windshield wiper correct size?
I am just wondering what is the correct size of the windshield wiper for my car 260E? I just bought one from the hardware store and its 24", I had a hell of a time trying to put it on, I had to flip it up-side down before the lock mechanism will go in correctly and then I flip the wiper blade back into the correct position. Anyway it still doesn't appear to fit. The edge still touches the edge of the windshield (where windshield meets teh metal frame.). So i guess I must have picked up a wrong size blade.
What is teh correct size blade. How do you know that you installed properly. Looks like I didn't. |

Me too, CLK430
I had the same problem with my wiper I bought from MB for my 99 clk430. It also slightly touches the window trim and I had to remove one of the abs plastic ends on the insert because the 2 thin metal strips were a bit to long. I feel so stupid, I can't believe that changing a windshield wiper is such an ordeal.

Well the trick is to buy the proper part. I would never in my wildest dreams buy a wiper blade for my MB at the local hardware store. The other post about the blade not fitting even though it was purchased at the dealer also begs the question. Did they make a mistake on the part no.? You have to bet yes, as MB clearly didn't design the wiper blade to hit the trim.
A couple of clicks in the parts section of this site and you'll have the correct part for your car. Steve |

wildest dreams
Of course I checked the part numbers, it's only 1/2 of a centimeter to long for the windshield wiper holder (the existing metal part). I'd be suprised if Mercedes make windshield wiper blades that vary by that small a distance. Well I guess it doesn't matter, I'll just drive 100 miles to the dealer and pay a fortune like always.

trim
I really wasn't clear about hitting the trim, the exact story on that part is that if you lift the wiper blade up it can actually rest on the door/window column (just barely hanging on). I do appreciate your sarcasm though.

Not sure about your car, but I can attest that the change away from the traditional ones with the two metal strips to the ones with the plastic ends is not good. When I tried those on my 300E with the single wiper, the blade had a fair amount of end to end movement, which the metal strip version doesn't have.
I was able to source the old style on-line. Did the same thing on my '97S320, which had the plastic ones when I bought it. Steve |

Well it was snowing here earlier this week and my benz was parked outside. So you know after you scrape off the snows there is still a thin layer of ice at the edge of the windshield and metal frame, makes perfect on ramp for the wiper blade. So i was driving home on the highway, and its snowing heavily. So I had my wiper going at full speed, and what do you know when it comes to the edge of the it always slides up the ice ramp and go right onto the metal frame and sometimes it gets stuck and blows a fuse. Scary moments. Never use the wrong size wiper!

I change my blades anuually on the regularly-driven vehicles. Even with climates with little to no rain, the blades harden or rot out.
When available, I generally opt for the Bosch inserts. They are a perfect fit for the most part. If I can't find the correct iinsert but the whole wiper assembly is available, I go ahead and swap the insert and keep the OEM assembly. If you look real close, you'll see your vehicle model number embossed on the wiper!

Go to Autozone (or equivalent) and get the ANCO adapter (adapts the ANCO blade carrier to the MB shepherd's crook-believe the number is AN-43) and a complete ANCO blade assembly. Then you can buy ANCO inserts anywhere for much less.

Boy did I have that number wrong....It's ANCO part 48-06. Do a search for 124 wiper alternatives. Mine works great.
