outside temp. gauge in dash

Can I change the in dash gauge from celcius to farenheit on my 1985 500 sel. It is such a pain trying to tell what the temperature is. I don't see any where that i can change it. I am new to this car and would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

you can't, your model comes with a fix temp reading/no conversion.

Well you can, but you would need to replace the display unit with a F one, but cool is right - there is no 'switch' do change the display.

They come up from time to time on ebay.

The conversion is not that hard.

Just double the celsius readout and add 30. It will get you very close.


10X2=20

20+30=50

Wow, thanks for that little conversion. I was wondering the same thing when I first bought my 85' 380SE. I of course was used to "F" readings, being here in the USA and wondered if there was some sort of way to easily change it over. I was hoping it would be as simple as the flick of a switch, like it was on my old 92' Buick.

I have about got used to it though being in Celsius.

You will get used to it after awhile. The little info that "brewtoo" listed is very helpful.

If you must have the degree F, look for one at the wreckers or on Ebay, then sell your degree C readout on the Canadian Ebay site.

Seriously, I have a question though.... lets say its a "negative" number.... like -5°C. Would it be like this:
-5 X 2 = -10
-10 + 30 = 20 ?

I just wanted to make sure I was doing that negative properly. Seems like it is.
